Marketing Plan
Anyone with the dream of owning a successful home based business must have a marketing plan in place. This will ensure that you are building your business with a solid foundation for long-term success.

To help you get started, or if you have already started but things aren’t going so well, here are my recommendations:
7 Must-Do Steps for a Successful Business Marketing Plan
1. IDENTIFY YOUR TARGET MARKETMany people start their home based business without properly researching and identifying their target market. To build a successful small business, you must narrow your business to a small niche. (This is the specific product features aimed at satisfying a specific market need.) It may not make sense now, but the narrower and more specific you are, the more you will attract customers.

There are often two factors present when choosing your target market. The first comes directly from your own life’s experiences.• Are you a grandparent? • Retired? • Lost your job? • Raised your kids as a single parent? • Were you a stay-at-home mom? • Just want to be your own boss? Look for a group of people who you can feel a connection with, some passion, and a high degree of interest. Then move on to the second factor: • Is this the best target audience for my business?
Do your research to find out who is searching for what on the internet. Use the search engines, using your particular niche, and notice what articles appear and who the articles are targeting. Make sure to put some time and thought into selecting your target market. By narrowing this down, you will make your business stand out from all the businesses who try to be everything to everyone.
2. DEVELOP AN ONLINE PRESENCE
In today's world, your home based business marketing plan MUST include a web presence. This is the most cost effective way for your target market to find you and benefit from your unique knowledge, skills, and services. People will use your web pages as one way to get to know you. They will want to know: Who You Are What You Do How You Can Be Contacted Why They Need You People will Google your name, visit your website and perhaps friend you on Facebook. All of this is part of today’s process of building relationships. It’s critical to know how to develop a relationship online so that people will come to know, like and trust you. The more they read your online web pages, the more credible you become. Equally important is if you build a well constructed website or blog, the search engines will send you free traffic. People who land on your pages have expressed an interest in your content by searching specifically for it, so your site becomes a lead generation source for your business. I highly recommend
SiteBuildIt!
You will be able to choose the methods that suit you and learn step-by-step how to effectively utilize these methods so that your marketing plan will aid you to creating a income much sooner, rather than later. One thing you cannot afford to do is to ignore marketing your business. You must find marketing methods that get your message out in a way that you are comfortable with and will attract people to you.
3. HAVE MULTIPLE STREAMS OF INCOME Often people will build their home based business marketing plan based on a single product, company, or service. This marketing plan leaves your business extremely vulnerable. If your product changes or becomes unavailable, what do you sell? If your company changes its policies, compensation plan or—worse yet—goes out of business, then what?
By selling multiple products from multiple sources, including affiliate products, advertising, and education, you are building a solid business foundation. If one company fails, (trust me, it happens all the time…) you can easily send your customers to a different company for other products. As you consider multiple streams of income as an important part of your marketing plan, it’s a good idea to make your choices complementary to each other. This enables you to market all of your business sources on one website or one blog without conflicting with each other.
4. USE AUTOMATION Often home based businesses are owned by one person. If that’s you, that means you do everything—at least you try to do everything. One key feature to a home based business marketing plan is to have an automated way to maintain contact with your customers. Get a good autoresponder system so that your customers hear from you, even while you are away from your office.
Oprius has an excellent system that integrates all your customer management with your autoresponder so you never lose touch. It includes a double opt-in feature that protects you from being accused of spam. Having an automated follow-up system for
postcard marketing and personalized greeting cards
is one of the best marketing tips I can give you. There aren’t many words more powerful than “Thank You.” This not only rewards you with repeat customers, but also referrals for years to come.
5. ACQUIRE EFFECTIVE TRAINING If you are serious about your home based business, then you will need effective
business training.
Without knowledge about the internet and marketing, building your business will become frustrating and seem impossible. Every new business owner can expect to make mistakes, but proper training will keep them at a minimum, saving lots of time, money, and effort. The premier training program for home based business marketing is
Renegade Professional.
You will learn how people are attracting endless prospects to their business using the Internet, and how you can too, even if you have little or NO experience. You have access to step by step tutorials on every phase of planning, constructing and implementing your internet marketing plan. You can also learn how to effectively implement "multiple streams of income," if that's a direction you want to take.
6. DEVELOP A MARKETING BUDGET
Having a budget for your marketing plan is absolutely essential. I’ve have many consultations with online business builders and rarely did I find someone who had considered a marketing budget. Many of us have a hard time creating a budget for ourselves in our personal lives let alone our business. But, it’s best to include this in your marketing plan right away. While there are a variety of tools and services required to begin your internet home business, many are quite inexpensive with some being
free.
You don’t need a lot to begin with. If you can, I recommend budgeting at least $50 a month. As your business grows and your revenues increase, adjust your budget accordingly.
7. SET REALISTIC GOALS And, last but not least, another element of a successful marketing plan that should be considered is the importance of goal-setting. It always helps to know where you want to go so that you can move in that direction!
Here’s what you do:• Identify your goals • Write them down • Say them aloud, and • Read them regularly. It’s very easy to get so caught up in the “learning process” that you forget entirely about your goals. Keep it simple by setting both short-term and long-term goals. You may need to adjust them from time to time. Be realistic—but challenge yourself! This can be tricky though. You don’t want to downsize your dream… Perhaps you just need to adjust your marketing plan to realize it. Each of these steps is important in order to lay the proper foundation and get your home business running, yet each one can be overwhelming.
I have experience helping online marketers with some of the marketing challenges they might be facing and helping them get pointed in the right direction.
