Be sure to make your budget mirror your life, or you will find it very difficult to stick with. As you might have already found out, though, it can be challenging to make the needed changes.I am always on the lookout for new budgeting tips. I've listed more below, some more drastic than others, that will hopefully give you some new ideas or just help you recommit to budgeting.
Tips On Budgeting
• Commit to live on less than you earn. • Balance your checkbook—keep track of spending. (You can nickel and dime yourself into debt.) • Avoid the urge to splurge – impulse buying can kill your budget. • Haggling on a price has become more acceptable in retail sales. • Only use coupons if it’s something you really need or normally buy. • Take the bus. • Get your hair cut every 5 weeks rather than 4 (I do the same for my dog). • When eating out, order water instead of soda pop. • Call your credit card company and ask for a lower interest rate. • Never shop on an empty stomach, make a grocery list, get in and out quickly. • Studies have shown that bottled water is no safer than tap water—this change alone can save lots. • Save on long distance by using a calling card, check

• Clip coupons for cheaper drugs at

• Do your homework – price check on the internet. Some stores will match or beat a competitor’s price.
• Find additional income by starting a business from home.
• Make do with what you have.
• Cut out bad habits like alcohol or tobacco. Saves lots of money, especially with health care expenses.
• Relocate, find a better job, and downsize your home.
• Use an effective system that will speed up your process to become a debt-free home owner.
• Be prepared for big expenses that occur once or twice a year, such as car insurance and Christmas.
• Pay credit card payments on time – prevents a late fee and interest rate increase.
Perhaps you have failed before at managing your money and just can’t get motivated to try again.
While budgeting is difficult, it is not impossible, and it does get better. Stick with it! Always be ready and willing to learn new tips on budgeting, if what you are doing isn’t working.
If you share your finances with someone else – communicate, communicate, communicate.
Have the courage to change. Remember that problems are easy to solve when we listen and use common sense.
