Yard Sales

Strategies For Finding the Best Bargains

First - Get Organized!

No matter what the current economy is, it’s just plain smart to shop at yard sales, garage sales, flea markets, or even at consignment shops and thrift shops.

Whether you’re shopping for one item or just out to find some great bargains, get ready for the big sales by getting organized. This is your best strategy. Here’s how to get started:

» Shop in affluent neighborhoods. They are likely to have well-kept and new items at great prices.

» Schedule stops so you don’t backtrack. Check your local paper and number the ads with a marker.

» Include the starting times and begin with an area that has the earliest.

» Be prepared to haggle. Make an offer! Particularly late in the day or on the last day of a multi-day sale, sellers are more likely to lower prices.

» Depending on what you’re shopping for, or if you find more treasures than you planned on, be sure you have a vehicle big enough to get your items home.

Yard sales can be fun. It’s amazing what you might find (even if you don’t purchase anything) and is a great way to stretch your budget.
